“9News First” Profiled

The American Journalism Review takes a look at the growing trend amongst local television stations across the country that are producing early early morning newscasts in efforts to cater to the insomniacs, clubgoers returning home, suburbanites with long commutes, med students, and anyone else who might be up at 4:30am. In their article, they also mention KUSA’s “9News First” and its emphasis on business news:

At KUSA in Denver, the 4:30 a.m. newscast that launched in June focuses on financial and business news. “There are more and more people [here] working in multiple time zones domestically and internationally that must use various work hours to conduct business,” says Patti Dennis, the station’s vice president and news director.
