Confirmed: KCNC to Share Helicopter with KMGH and KUSA

Joanne Ostrow at the Denver Post confirmed today that KCNC will begin sharing a helicopter with KMGH and KUSA beginning April 1. I first broke this story earlier this week.

As a cost-saving measure, KCNC-Channel 4 will join the chopper-sharing arrangement between KUSA-Channel 9 and KMGH-Channel 7, in effect since January 2009.

In KCNC’s case, the station will be “taking the video feed, not participating in operational decisions,” said KMGH news director Jeff Harris.

Eventually all three stations will have the ability to do separate enterprise reporting. In breaking-news situations, all three stations will share the same feed from the single camera. The chopper will bear no station logos.
